2027 Centenary Survey
Survey 2027
A lake-wide scientific assessment combining heritage methods with modern technology.
The SurveyMuundo wa Utafiti
Eight Work PackagesVifurushi Nane vya Kazi
The survey is structured around eight integrated work packages, spanning historical review, field research, laboratory analysis, stakeholder engagement, storytelling, media, policy, and project management.
Historical Data Review
Digitisation of Graham’s original Cefas logbooks and systematic review of 100 years of published data to establish the foundational baseline.
Field Research
Lake-wide sampling across all three nations — biodiversity, fisheries, water quality, sediment cores, and socioeconomic surveys of 1,500+ households.
Laboratory Analysis
eDNA and genomic sequencing of 10,000+ specimens, water chemistry testing, sediment core dating, and open data publication via GBIF.
Stakeholder Engagement
Meaningful engagement with lakeside communities, policymakers, and international partners.
Story Development
Filming, photography, oral histories, and documentary production capturing the human dimension.
Media & Advocacy
Public awareness campaigns, school programmes, digital communications, and media engagement.
Policy Recommendations
Comprehensive reports, policy briefs, community toolkits, and IUCN assessments.
Project Management
